I can see the "long " bridge back there. Milwaukee is still one of my favorite places to visit, ever. Call me strange. Did you take that on the train? I gotta get back there some day.

Yeah, that was from the train on a cold winter evening. My first experiences with Milwaukee were mostly passing through like that. Smokestack from a passing train, a glimpse out a greyhound bus window at night of an ornate gothic church illuminated by freeway headlights, a foggy March drive past boarded-up neo-German buildings on North Avenue on my way to visit a college friend's family. It wasn't until my sister moved to nearby Madison that I really spent time exploring Milwaukee on foot, but I was drawn to it the first time I saw it. You're excatly right; There's something about that place. Let's go. Seriously. Whenever you're ready.

Oh yeah, Milwaukee has always been one of those "passing through" towns for me . I'm acquainted with the bus and train station. It wasn't until I had a little gallery show there did I get out and move around and realize that people actually live their lives there. I found where all the mexican food is once.
Madison is very orderly and clean and efficient, but Milwaukee has this secret, old life that's sitting around that I haven’t explored. It’s my favorite Wisconsin place besides, maybe, uh, Racine. I’m going to take Ollie on the train next year to see a Brewers game. I got a speeding ticket as I was leaving Milwaukee once, which is pretty embarrassing to admit. We’ll hang out there some time!
