I grew up in Flatville Illinois. I left Flatville at the age of 17, in 1974. Even though I didn't really care for the farm life as a kid, now at the age of 52, I look back and wish I could live my childhood all over again. Flatville may not look like much to an outsider, but for those who grew up and lived there and went away like me, it's what Walton's Mountain must have been like to John Boy, it's home!

I made a point to go see Flatville after seeing it represented in an incredible painting by Billy Morrow Jackson, who lives nearby and has done several landscape paintings representing this part of the country. My photo couldn't hope to represent the subtle beauty of the place nearly as well as Jackson's painting, but here it is nonetheless. Flatville is appreciated.
